  • 2 cups black beans, cooked and mashed

  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs

  • 1/4 cup grated carrot

  • 1/4 cup chopped bell pepper

  • 2 tablespoons adjika chilli paste

  • 1 egg (or flax egg for vegan option)

  • Olive oil for grilling

  • Burger buns and your favourite toppings (lettuce, tomato, onion, avocado, etc.)


  1. In a large bowl, combine the mashed black beans, breadcrumbs, grated carrot, chopped bell pepper, adjika chilli paste, and egg.

  2. Mix until well combined. Form into 4 patties.

  3. Heat a grill pan or outdoor grill over medium heat. Lightly oil the grates.

  4. Grill the veggie burgers for about 5-7 minutes on each side, until nicely charred and heated through.

  5. Serve on burger buns with your favourite toppings!

*You can also make adjika mayonnaise for the burger - simply mix good quality mayo with a spoonful or two of adjika and enjoy as a dip or burger sauce!
